28th November 2014

Swansea City 2 Crystal Palace 1
FA Cup third round replay - Monday, 14 January 1980
Swansea City defeated top-flight Crystal Palace in this FA Cup third round replay at Ninian Park.
The two sides had drawn 2-2 at the Vetch Field and 3-3 after extra-time in the Selhurst Park replay, meaning that the two teams had to meet for a third time.
Wales international Terry Boyle gave Palace the lead after 12 minutes, but John Toshack's side pushed forward in the second half and Robbie James equalised in the 54th minute.
The Swans wore down their high-flying opponents and David Giles, who later played for Palace, scored the winner with 20 minutes to play.

SWANS: Letheran, Marustik, Rushbury, Charles, Phillips, Giles, Craig, James, Waddle, Toshack, Callaghan.

CRYSTAL PALACE: Burridge, Hinshelwood, Cannon, Kember, Boyle, Gilbert, Murphy, Fenwick, Swindlehurst, Walsh, Hilaire.

Welsh international midfielder David Giles featured in Swansea City's 1980-81 promotion and Welsh Cup 'double' success.
Starting his career with Cardiff City, he moved via Wrexham to Swansea for £70,000 in November 1979.
He was the leading marksman in 1979-80, netting eight goals in 54 league outings before he was swapped for Crystal Palace's Ian Walsh in March 1982.
Later playing for Birmingham, Newport County, Cardiff, Barry Town, Merthyr Tydfil, AFC Cardiff and Ebbw Vale, he has since worked for a blood screening company.
