Bobby Wales admitted his first Swansea City goal was not the prettiest, but he’ll gladly take it after helping his new club reach the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The striker netted the second goal in the 3-1 first-round victory over Crawley Town at the Swansea.com Stadium, sending the ball into the far corner of the net after the visitors had ben unable to clear a ball on the edge of their box.

It was not the cleanest of strikes, but Wales was in the right place at the right time to add to Ronald’s early goal.

Kabongo Tshimanga pulled a goal back for the visitors, but Ethan Galbraith sealed the Swansea win with a fine volley in stoppage time.

And Wales was pleased to be off the mark following his summer arrival from Kilmarnock.

“I am really happy,” he said.

“The goal may not be pretty but it is good enough if it goes in.

“I was hoping to get minutes in this game, to try and take my chance and I hope I managed to take it.

“I was happy to get the goal but, more important, we got the win.

“With my name I think it’s almost fitting that my first goal for the club came at home, and it’s a nice feeling to hear the fans chanting your name.

“I am new here, I am in my first month and I am not going to walk into the team.

“I want to train well, to learn, to improve and to try and help the team do well.”

And the 20-year-old also cheekily claimed an assist for Galbraith’s goal, after his miscued strike eventually fell for the midfielder to volley home.

“I was obviously happy with the goal, like I said it was a bit of a bobbly one, but then there’s the assist, as well,” laughed the Scot.

“I’ve told Gally I saw him coming!”
