Paul Clement takes Swansea City to Chelsea tomorrow believing his team are within touching distance of mid-table.

The Swans currently sit 19th in the Premier League having taken only one point from their last five top-flight games.

But 11th-placed Huddersfield Town are only six points better off than the Swans – and Clement believes his players have the ability to shoot up the table.

The Swans ended a four-game league losing streak courtesy of a much-improved performance against Bournemouth last weekend.

And Clement hopes a goalless draw with the Cherries will mark the start of a positive run.

“I would have expected us to be in a healthier position than we are in, but you also have to look at how tight it is between the bottom sides and the middle of the pack,” said the Swans manager.

“If you put together a couple of results, you are going to be in a much healthier position in the table.

“That’s the belief I have.

“Our form has not been good, but our performance last Saturday was more encouraging.

“That’s something we have to build on – we have to continue to improve and we have to gain some momentum.”

Though the Swans claimed only one point against Bournemouth, Clement has taken great heart from a performance which merited a victory.

“I think different things came together in that game,” he added.

“The motivation of the players was strong – you could see that in the running and battling – and we also played some good football.

“Our fans got fully behind the team, so overall it was a big step up in a number of areas.”
