Brandon Cooper | We want to keep making strides

Brandon Cooper believes Swansea City Under-23s’ resounding victory over Everton demonstrates the significant strides the side have made in recent months, and he wants that process to continue against Newcastle on Monday.

The fixture will be available to watch live on swanseacity.com from 1pm on Monday, February 3.

The development side booked their place in the Premier League International Cup quarter-finals following a memorable 4-0 win over David Unsworth’s side at Finch Farm last Monday.

Eight of the starting 11 – including Cooper – were involved eight months earlier as the Swans were beaten 2-0 by an experienced Everton side in the Premier League Cup semi-final showdown at the Liberty.

The young Toffees would go on to lift the trophy and complete a league-and-cup double.

However, the Swans put that disappointment behind them in emphatic fashion on Monday, which Cooper feels is testament to the progress made by the development side, who have now won four of their last six games in all competitions.

And the defender believes the result provides another big step in the right direction for Jon Grey’s side, and hopes to see the positive trend continue when Newcastle visit SA1 in Premier League 2 action Monday lunchtime.

“On paper, an away game against Everton is always hard, but we went there and did well to get a really good win,” said Cooper.

“A lot of the squad played in that game last season. It’s a credit to the staff how much we’ve come on since then.

“When you get a consistent run of games together, you improve and get better.

“We’ve improved a lot in our game. We have a younger team than last year, but we’re getting better all the time.

“Since the start of the year, we’ve had a change in mentality.

“It’s now about how we can produce good performances consistently for the rest of the season.

“We’re full of confidence and that’s a big part in what we’re trying to do.

“Hopefully, we can keep making good strides going forward and become an even better team.”
