"Cameron deserves his chance"

Graham Potter has backed Cameron Carter-Vickers to make the most of the chance to claim a regular starting role at Swansea City.

The United States international looks set for a run in the side after Joe Rodon was ruled out for at least six weeks by the broken metatarsal he suffered against Sheffield United.

The Wales Under-21 international underwent surgery on the problem on Thursday.

Carter-Vickers - on-loan from Tottenham - has had to be patient as Rodon and Mike van der Hoorn have proven to be Potter's regular choice at the centre of the Swansea defence.

But he has impressed with his composure during his 12 appearances to date, and Potter has no doubt he will grasp his chance with both hands.

"Cameron has been waiting patiently and he has been a fantastic team player for us whilst Joe and Mike have played in those positions," said Potter.

"He deserves the chance to play, it's a good opportunity for him while we wait for Joe to recover.

"He has been waiting, he has not let us down when he has played, but the form of Joe and Mike has meant he has had to be patient.

"I think he enjoys it here, I know that from speaking to him and now he has an opportunity to play and it's the right situation for him to play in an environment he knows and he likes."
