Tom Carroll has returned to Swansea City from loan club Aston Villa after being ruled out for the rest of the season.

The midfielder's loan has been cut short by Villa after Carroll was forced to head back to the Liberty Stadium and undergo a hip operation.

Carroll featured 13 times for the Swans this season before joining Villa on loan on transfer deadline day in January, but managed just two appearances under Dean Smith.

The 26-year-old will now begin his rehabilitation with the Swans but won't feature again this term for Graham Potter's side.

"We had come to the end of all possible solutions with his hip. He's had a disappointing season in that regard and the decision was taken to have surgery to fix it," said Potter.

"He should be back next week to start his rehab with the aim of being fit for the start of next season."
