Character was key for Olsson

Martin Olsson pointed to a performance full of character after the Swans opened their Premier League campaign with a hard-earned point at Southampton.

The visitors shared the spoils on the South Coast after a determined defensive display kept the Saints at bay in a 0-0 draw.

The Swans had to dig deep to keep out a Southampton side that were on the front foot.

And Olsson was in good spirits after Paul Clement’s side got off the mark at the first attempt.

“We knew it was going to be tough,” said the Swedish international.

“We didn’t get it going like we usually do with possession, so we will take a point.

“We had to dig deep and work hard. We may not have played our best today, but we showed character and team spirit to keep that clean sheet.

“It’s a long season and it’s a good start with a point and a clean sheet.”
