Chloe Chivers | Cup win important for team confidence

Chloe Chivers v Wrexham

Chloe Chivers was pleased to see Swansea City Women keep their momentum going as her double hat-trick helped them to an 8-3 Welsh Cup win at Cwmbran Celtic Ladies.

Chivers fired the Swans two goals in front early on, before Cwmbran Celtic responded with three goals in six minutes to take an unexpected lead.

However, Chivers would score twice more before half-time before getting another two after the break, with an own goal and a strike from Sophie Brisland-Hancocks completing the scoring for the Swans.

The six-goal haul from Chivers was her second for the Swans, having also sealed a double hat-trick against Coed Duon in this competition two years previously.

She was delighted to make a notable contribution, but felt it was more important for the team to kick on after their memorable win over Wrexham at the Swansea.com Stadium.

“I’m happy with the goals, it probably should have been a few more but it was nice to get that boost in confidence,” said Chivers.

“I think the first half was tough, we go two goals up and then, out of nowhere, we almost took our foot off the pedal.

“In those types of games, you can’t afford to do that, any team can punish you regardless of what tier they are in. We came out dominant in the second half and I thought we played really well.

“The cup is really important to us, it’s a great way to build confidence on the back of the win over Wrexham. Games like this are important for us as a team, it gives us a chance to try different combinations and play with confidence and a smile on your face.

“We will learn from our mistakes, we’ll take that into the next cup game, it’s all about tweaking those little things and working on them.”
