Swansea City Women's midfielder Chloe Chivers was pleased with the response shown by her side after the break in their 8-0 pre-season victory over Cascade Youth Club Ladies.

Chivers found the back of the net five times in the match, with Aimee Deacon, Lowri Jones and Jess Williams also getting on the scoresheet in what proved to be a convincing victory over the Genero Adran South side.

It was a difficult first half for the Swans, however, and although two late Chivers goals gave them the advantage at the break, it had been an even affair, with the hosts creating plenty of opportunities to take the lead.

The Swans showed their quality after the restart, producing a number of well-worked goals, with Chivers finding the net three more times to round off a superb individual performance from the Swans' No. 10.

Chivers admitted the team weren't at their best during the opening 45 minutes, but was pleased with their response after the break, while her five-goal haul provided a welcome confidence boost ahead of the new campaign.

"We weren't good enough in the first half and didn't play to the level that we know we can. I think in the second half we did really well as a team. We challenged ourselves, solved problems and it was a much better half of football in general.

"Yzzy [Taylor] said at half-time that we're a top team in the league above and we needed to showcase that. There were also little things that we could do better, both as a team and as individuals, which we discussed and then put into practice on the pitch, and I think that was evident to see.

"For me, it was great to get the goals. I'd gone the first couple of games of pre-season without scoring, so I think it's a huge confidence boost for myself. It was important to get those first couple of goals to settle us down and then we really pushed on from there." She said.

"It's always good to get a variety of goalscorers. It can add pressure on individuals and their performances if they're relied upon to score, which isn't the case here. I also think the variety of different goals that we score is a big thing. It's something we were good at last year and something we need to bring into this season as well.

"It's been a good pre-season so far. We've had a few new girls come in who I think have settled really well. We're a welcoming club, while we've also tried to set the standards for ourselves as high as possible.

"Pre-season is always tough when you're trying to get that fitness and sharpness back after such a long break, but I think we're in a good position as we continue getting ourselves ready for the season.

"I think we've got quite a variety of players, which can help us play in different shapes, and that's coming into practice during these matches. Now we just have to keep pushing and try to be the best version of ourselves."
