Swansea City players rounded off the 2023 Christmas Week of Giving with a squad visit to the annual Christmas Party, organised by Phil Lake.

Celebrating its 19th year, the event is arranged and funded by the local businessman and lifelong Swans fan, and brings Christmas cheer to young patients from Morriston Hospital as well as school children from underprivileged backgrounds.

The party was held in the hospitality lounges at the Swansea.com Stadium and was attended by the men’s squad, with Santa Claus, Cyril and Cybil also in attendance.

A meal, and children’s disco were provided, while four special children who have had a particularly challenging year were treated to meeting the team ahead of the party.

“We started this in 2004, we took children from the hospital to the barn at Fairwood for a party and that started things,” explained Phil.

“More recently, we’ve been at the stadium, so we’ve been able to bring more children from the hospital and local community and that has been nice.

“What I’m amazed at is that, although these players are young, a lot of them understand what they have and the way they have interacted with the children this year has been amazing.

“This event will make some of these children’s Christmases. Seeing their faces is incredible!”

The Week of Giving has seen players giving back to the community over the Christmas period as the club looks to bring festive cheer to people throughout Swansea.

And Jamal Lowe says the players understand the part they can play at putting smiles on faces at events like the Christmas Party.

“It’s really good to do these things around Christmas. For some people, it’s a great time of year but for some people it can be tough,” he said.

“It’s nice for us to come together and be able to give back, celebrate and put smiles on faces.

“We’ve enjoyed meeting the children, and it’s so nice to be able to give them a positive memory. It’s nice for people to come and meet us, have a chat, have a photo and just have a laugh really.

“It’s nice to put smiles on faces, but I’ve had a few smiles on my face as well from meeting and speaking to everyone."
