CLASSIC MATCHES - Swans 2-2 Cardiff

3rd November

With the Welsh derby fast approaching, the build-up begins to the first all-Welsh Barclays Premier League encounter.

Each day this week - right the way up until Sunday's hotly anticipated fixture - we will bring you a classic derby encounter from over the years.

Pintado salvages a point for Swans

Gorka Pintado salvaged a point for Swansea in a fiery south Wales derby which saw two players sent off.

In a thrilling advert for Welsh football, the Swans got off to the better start, controlling possession and deservedly took the lead on 19 minutes.

Jason Scotland beat the offside trap down the right and cut back to Pratley to fire home from 12 yards.

Cardiff managed to get themselves back into the game after Pratley's opener, and they could have levelled three minutes before the break.

Routledge curled a cross in from the right, which Dorus de Vries punched straight into the path of Ledley, who snatched at it and fired off target.

But on the stroke of half-time, Ledley made no mistake from de Vries' weak punch, blasting home to get Cardiff back on terms.

The visiting side then got the perfect start to the second-half when Chopra was upended by Bessone inside the penalty area.

McCormack stepped up to take the spot kick and coolly sent de Vries the wrong way.

After McPhail's was dismissed for a second yellow card in the 51st minute, the Swans threw on Pintado, who sent the ball into the top right-hand corner to level the scores.

And moments later, McDonald slipped the ball into the box, but the outstretched Pintado was unable to nudge the ball past Peter Enckelman.

Then came yet more drama when Swansea's Leon Britton was sent off late on for a two-footed challenge on Kevin McNaughton.

A first league meeting for nine years saw honours end even, but with four goals and eight bookings - including two red cards - it all added up to a pulsating encounter.
