A trio of Swans Community Trust projects faced off against their counterparts from the Aston Villa Foundation in Brackla at a multi-sports tournament.

Held at Brackla Leisure Centre, the tournament saw participants from the Premier League Girls, Premier League Kicks and Premier League 4 Sport projects go head-to-head in a range of sports including football, basketball, tennis, hockey and table tennis.

“It was great for the Swans Community Trust and the Aston Villa Foundation to come together and give groups of participants from some of our Premier League projects the chance to compete against each other and put into practice the skills that they’ve been learning in our community sports sessions,” said our PL4S Co-ordinator Craig Richards.

Following an away fixture hosted by Villa earlier this year that was won by the hosts, the home fixture saw the tables turn with the Swans lifting the trophy after a tense penalty shoot-out due to both sides drawing 3-3.

Wins for the young Swans came in both the boys and girls football, as well as in basketball, whilst Villa claimed the medals in hockey, tennis and table tennis.

Regardless of the winning team, however, participants from both the Swans and Villa thoroughly enjoyed the event.

“I enjoyed the day a lot and it was a challenge,” said Daniel Garnett who represented the Swans in basketball.

“It gives us a chance to meet and socialise with other players who we don’t know so it’s not always playing against the same people.

"When you constantly play against the same people you’re not constantly learning new things, but when you play against new people, you learn new things."
