Dan Sheehan becomes assistant head coach of Swansea City Women
Swansea City Women are delighted to confirm Dan Sheehan as the club’s new assistant head coach.
Sheehan will work alongside head coach Yzzy Taylor, and has joined the Swans in time to play a full part in their pre-season preparations.
Sheehan is a former Swansea City men’s academy player, and earned professional status under then-manager Roberto Martinez.
Following the end of his contract, Sheehan went on to work as an academy coach with the Swans between 2011 and 2013, before moving to play at semi-pro level in Australia.
He has held coaching and teaching positions in the intervening period, and has been head of women’s football at Swansea University – overseeing teams in the Genero Adran South and BUCS competitions - for almost four years prior to making this switch.
“I am proud to be appointed assistant head coach of Swansea City Women – a role that feels like a full-circle moment after previously representing the club as a player and an academy coach,” said Sheehan.
“I’d like to thank Yzzy and Chloe (Bull, football operations and administration executive) for the opportunity, and I’m grateful to the staff and player for the warm welcome.
“Pre-season has been a great experience so far, and it’s been exciting to see the quality, professionalism and passion within the squad.
“I’m looking forward to the season ahead and working with this talented group.”
Head coach Yzzy Taylor, added: “I am delighted to welcome Dan back to Swansea City as assistant head coach.
“He brings a great depth of knowledge and experience of the Women’s game within Swansea and the surrounding area following his four successful years leading the women’s football programme at Swansea University.
“His player development skills will be a great asset to us moving forward.”
Chloe Bull, football operations and administration executive, added: “Dan was the outstanding candidate for this role, and we believe he and Yzzy will work well together and strongly complement each other’s skills.
“Dan obviously brings an in-depth knowledge and understanding of what it means to represent Swansea City, having previously done so as a player and a coach.
“His background in running a programme designed to help young players improve and develop also mark him out as a strong appointment as we work towards the start of the 2025-26 season.”
