Swansea City Women assistant head coach Dan Sheehan was delighted with how the squad delivered the gameplan to secure a 5-2 victory over The New Saints at Park Hall.

The Swans took the three points in their opening phase two fixture of the Genero Adran Premier thanks to four goals from top scorer Chloe Chivers and a second of the season for defender Eilish Mitchell.

The result extends their winning run to six matches in all competitions as they continue to close the gap on Wrexham and Cardiff City at the top of the table with five league games remaining.

Sheehan believes the performance was a strong reflection of how far the squad has progressed this season. He praised the players’ attitude, particularly their ability to remain composed during difficult moments, and said Chivers fully deserves the recognition she is receiving - highlighting the important role she plays on the pitch and within the dressing room.

“I’m really pleased. We knew our objective going into the game was three points, and the analysis we did during the week was implemented really well by the girls,” he said.

“I thought we worked incredibly hard both in and out of possession, and the most pleasing thing for me was how we dealt with problems in real time - especially when TNS changed shape. The players worked things out together on the pitch.

“One of the girls mentioned in the changing room that the last time we played away at TNS it proved to be a turning point in our season. I think this was another great example of that growth. We didn’t let our heads drop, we didn’t get on each other’s backs, and we stayed united to solve problems during the match.

“I can’t fault the intensity. The girls worked extremely hard and got their rewards for it.

“I have to mention Chloe’s performance too.

“This is my first season at the club, and from the very first session it was clear how much talent Chloe has. But more importantly, it’s the attitude she’s shown all season - not just focusing on herself, but helping guide others in the squad. Then you add her moments of individual brilliance, and she deserves all the plaudits she’s getting.”
