Davies hails "massive" win

Ben Davies described Sunday's win over West Brom as "massive" as the Swans picked up their first Premier League points of the season.

The young full-back scored the opener midway through the first half as he lashed a fine volley past Boaz Myhill after good work from Pablo Hernandez.

The Swans created further chances in the second period but it took until ten minutes from time for Michael Laudrup's men to seal the win as Hernandez slotted home after being teed up by Michu.

After back-to-back league defeats against Manchester United and Spurs at the start of the season, the Swans were the only side without a point in the Premier League.

And Davies highlighted the importance of Sunday's win ahead of the first international break of the season.

"It was a massive win for us," he said. "When we looked at the fixtures we knew this game was one where there was a possibility of a win.

"If we pick up something in those games then it's great, but sometimes we have to appreciate what we're up against.

"We have had some tough games to start with but this was a great three points for us and the performance was very good.

"We could have scored the second goal a lot earlier, but we did our job and we're delighted with the clean sheets as well.

"We go into every game looking to get three points and we're delighted with the win."

Michael Laudrup made six changes at West Brom from the side that started against Petrolul Ploiesti in midweek.

And the youngster grabbed his first goal of the season as he set the Swans on their way to victory at The Hawthorns.

It was the 20-year-old's second goal for the club following his strike against Stoke at the Liberty last season, and the defender was understandably delighted.

"My aim is to just play a good game, and any goals are a bonus," said Davies. "There was a lot of space on the edge of the box, and I saw the ball come over and just hoped for a good connection.

"Fortunately for me I hit the target and it went in."
