On This Day: Llorente stars at Anfield

Swansea City had never recorded a league victory at Anfield, but that all changed on this day in 2017.

Few people gave Paul Clement’s side much chance of upsetting Jurgen Klopp’s Reds in their own backyard.

After all, Liverpool were unbeaten in 17 games at their famous home, while Swansea were bottom of the Premier League pile and had been beaten 4-0 by Arsenal a week earlier.

But they produced a superb display to claim a 3-2 win that would prove a vital launchpad in their battle to avoid the drop.

After a goalless first half on a bitterly cold afternoon, the game sprang to life with two quickfire goals from Fernando Llorente.

The Spaniard firstly stabbed home from close range after a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner had come through to Wayne Routledge.

He then doubled the Swans lead with an emphatic header after excellent work by new signings Martin Olsson and Tom Carroll.

However, the Swans were pegged back as Roberto Firmino struck twice for the hosts to set up a thrilling finale.

And it was the visitors who came out on top as Carroll slalomed his way past three challenges before the ball fell for Sigurdsson to steer home and spark jubilant celebrations in the away end.
