de Guzman's on the comeback trail

20th August

Jonathan de Guzman hopes to take part in Wednesday's full training session as he targets a return against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Dutch midfielder missed last weekend's opening Barclays Premier League defeat to Manchester United after suffering concussion while on international duty.
Following a clash of heads with team-mate Dirk Kuyt during a training session drill, the Swans loanee was knocked out and needed eight stitches which ruled him out of Holland's friendly with Portugal.
Now de Guzman, speaking for the first time since the injury, has revealed Thursday's Europa League tie against Petrolul Poliesti will come too soon for him, but he is hopeful of being available for selection when the Swans head to White Hart Lane on Sunday.
"All I remember is running through a passing drill and all of a sudden I'm waking up about a minute later laid out on the deck and the doctor is looking over me," said the 25-year-old. "It was a nasty clash, but it was just an unfortunate accident.
"I've had the stitches out today (Tuesday) and trained with the group too, and hopefully I'll be involved in full training on Wednesday.
"If that happens then it will help my case for selection for Sunday's game against Tottenham.
"It would be great to be involved because obviously I missed last weekend's match with Manchester United, but we'll wait and see how it goes."
