Declan John is hoping to cap off a whirlwind week by making his Swansea City debut on Saturday.

The Wales defender joined the Swans from Rangers for an undisclosed fee this afternoon after completing a medical.

John arrives at the Liberty having spent a year at Ibrox, during which he made 31 appearances and scored three goals for the Scottish giants.

Now the 23-year-old left-back, who began his career at Cardiff City and had loan spells with Barnsley and Chesterfield, is hopeful of making the Swans squad for this weekend’s home clash with Preston.

“It has been a busy two or three days, but I am really happy to be here,” said John, who featured in Wales’ summer friendly with Mexico. “I am really looking forward to playing in a Swansea shirt.

“It is nice to come home to Wales and be back close to the family. I am a Merthyr boy born and bred.

“I started off at Cardiff as a kid but first and foremost I need to focus on my career and put myself first in this situation.

“I am excited and really happy to play under Graham Potter. I will look to try to get into the starting XI and try and get some minutes in.”
