February's Jack of the Month

24th February

Swansea City's very own Dai Jones has been named as Jack of the Month for February.

The 70-year-old supporter has been chosen for the monthly accolade as part of the club's initiative to give back to our loyal supporters.

For over a decade now, Dai has been a part of the furniture at the Swans, helping out around the training ground, as well as bringing a constant cheer to the place.

"I started working with the Swans ten years ago and they have been the best ten years," said the retired supporter.

"I used to play golf near Jersey Marine, where the boys used to train. I came down one day, and I've been here ever since.

"I help out with blowing balls up, putting things out on the field. I've supported the Swans since 1951 and I'm retired, so I love doing it.

"The players are all my friends and they are all great boys. Swansea City means everything to me. I live, eat and sleep the Swans.

"I've been giving out sweets every week for the last nine years. I call them the 'promotion sweets' because we've never been relegated since I started giving them out."

And at one point, Dai even thought he might get a game for his beloved Swans.

He added: "One time at the training ground, when the boys were warming up, Paulo Sousa and I had a kick-a-round.

"I thought I was going to get picked on the Saturday because he kept me there for so long!"

Meanwhile, Swans head coach Garry Monk had only positive words to say about the retired supporter, who voluntarily helps out at the club.

"He's a real important cog in what we do here," explained Monk. "He's out there every day helping the staff organise stuff.

"He's one of the first people out there in the morning and one of the last to leave.

"The boys love him and he loves the club. He understands what Swansea's about, and we need as many people like that around the place as possible.

"I can't speak highly enough of him. What a great guy. I hope he's here for many more years to come."

Swans kitman Mike Eames is another to highlight the importance of Dai's presence at the club.

"I could go on for days talking about Dai," said Eames. "He's such a happy person and great to have around the club.

"He makes people laugh, coming in singing every day. I tell everyone he's my adopted grandfather. Without him, we wouldn't be the team we are."
