Leroy Fer says Swansea City have a point to prove when they face Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday (3pm).

Graham Potter’s men travel to Villa Park for the third-round tie as the Championship takes a break for the famous knock-out competition.

The Swans have faced Dean Smith’s men twice already this season, losing 1-0 both home and away despite having strong spells in the two fixtures.

Manager Potter may look to rest some members of his squad after a hectic festive schedule, but skipper Fer says that, whoever plays, Swansea want to avoid losing three in a row to the Villans.

“Every competition is important, be it the league, the EFL Cup or the FA Cup,” said the Dutch midfielder.

“We don’t know what the gaffer will do but everybody wants to play, as always.

“It has been a busy time, the gaffer might rest players or not, but we want to win.

“We play a team we have lost to twice already this season, so we want to prove something against them.

“It’s a different game, a knock-out game and it’s all or nothing.”

Swansea got back to winning ways on New Year’s Day as they thumped Reading 4-1 at the Madekjski Stadium.

It was the ideal way to start 2019 – with the victory being Swansea’s biggest away from home in a league game since May 2016 – and Fer believes they got the reward for keeping faith in the way they want to play.

“That was what we needed, we had played some good football and not got the results, but if you stick to what you want to do it comes out in the end,” he added.

“We deserved that win and if we keep doing what we know we can do we can move forward.”
