Freddie Woodman | A good start, but there's still a long way to go

Freddie Woodman insists there is no complacency at Swansea City as Steve Cooper’s men look to pick up where they left off against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper has enjoyed a fine start to his loan spell in SA1, having joined on loan from Newcastle just before the start of the season.

He has kept three clean sheets from six appearances as the Swans have made an unbeaten start to the campaign with five wins and a draw prior to the international break.

They return to Championship action against Forest this weekend with Woodman keen for the hosts to build on a strong beginning, but mindful that there is a long way to go.

“It has gone well so far, we know it is a good start but we keep stressing it’s only a good start,” he said.

“There are still 40 games to go, and being top now does not mean you will win the league in the same way that if we were bottom now it would not mean relegation is a certainty.

“Don’t get me wrong, we would much rather have had the start we have had than the opposite, because it builds momentum and confidence and those things are important in football.

“We’ve had the international break, but it’s only one weekend without a game so it’s not like it’s a long time away from things and the focus is on picking up where we left off.

“We know it will be a tough game, you look at Forest’s results and they have only lost once and they will be a threat.

“It’s up to us to put in a performance at the Liberty, where we have such a good record, and give ourselves the best chance of a result.”

Woodman has quickly settled into life at Swansea, turning in a string of calm and assured displays between the sticks.

And the admits he has found it very easy to adjust to life in South Wales.

“It’s been nice to play with a settled back four, you build relationships and understanding and I have been made to feel welcome,” he added.

“I’ve had a few loan spells in my career, and I have to say this is the best place I have come in terms of settling straight away.

“I love playing here.”
