FULL-TIME: Cardiff 1 Swans U21s 0

16th September

Swansea City Under-18s suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Cardiff City in the first development league derby of the season.

It was a typically hard-fought contest between the two sides, with both teams displaying top quality counter-attacking football.

Kristian Scott made his debut for the Swans U21s, while Cardiff fielded some experienced pros in the likes of Jordon Mutch and Craig Noone.

The home side started the game off the strongest, but it was Kenji Gorre who came closest to breaking the deadlock for the Swans after hitting the crossbar either side of the half-time break.

However, it was Cardiff who managed to edge in front as Kadeem Harris slotted home a great cross from Luke Coulson past Slovenian goalkeeper Gregor Zabret.

The Swans put in a valiant effort to get back on terms late on, coming ever so close to getting the equaliser right before full-time.

On the 90th minute, Cardiff keeper Simon Moore prevented substitute Jernade Meade from grabbing the goal, which would have earned the Swans a point, by saving well down low.

Kristian O'Leary's men battled to get back on terms until the very last second but just couldn't find a way past the sturdy Cardiff defence.
