FULL-TIME: QPR 2 Swans U21s 1

25th February

Swansea City Under-21s were unable to make it three wins on the bounce in the Professional Development League 2 after they were edged out 2-1 at QPR on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite midfielder Josh Sheehan opening the scoring for the Swans in the 31st minute, a penalty from Mo Shariff just before the midway point and a second-half winner by Will Keane secured all three points for the hosts.

The Swans started the game brightly in wet conditions at Harlington Training Ground, putting early pressure on the QPR goal as Gwion Edwards hit a rasping effort just over the bar, eight minutes into the game.

Alex Bray then side-footed wide from six-yards before the Swans were eventually awarded for their first-half dominance when Sheehan opened the scoring 31 minutes into proceedings, converting from Bray's well-placed cross.

But with four minutes left of the first period, the Swans were dealt a blow when QPR's Mo Shariff levelled from the spot by sending Gregor Zabret the wrong way after Sam Magri was brought down in the box.

Despite the setback at the end of the first-half, the Swans yet again started the second period positively and controlled possession.

However, just past the hour mark, the hosts took the lead when Will Keane finished off a fine flowing move to fire QPR ahead.

With ten minutes left on the clock, Edwards came close to scoring a late equaliser for the visitors, but the Welsh winger's volleyed effort narrowly wide of the far post.

Speaking after the game, U21s coach Chris Llewellyn was disappointed that his side couldn't capitalise on their early domination.

"We played really well," said Llewellyn. "In the first-half, especially, we dominated but just lacked the finishing touch. We got behind their defence on five or six occasions.

"In the second-half, we continued where we left off in terms of controlling the game, but conceded from their one real chance.

"Overall, I am really pleased with how the boys played - they did everything we asked of them. It's just disappointing we couldn't get the result."
