George Byers hopes to continue on goal trail

George Byers has set his sights on starting to regularly contribute goals to the Swansea City cause after finding the net against Fulham.

The midfielder headed home from a Barrie McKay cross in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for the hosts as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Liberty Stadium.

It was Byers’ first league goal for the Swans since netting against Preston against August, and he looked the most likely goalscorer against the Cottagers.

Time and again he was denied by Fulham keeper Marek Rodak, but got his reward in the end as he made a fine return to the starting line-up.

While frustrated to see the Swans end the 90 minutes with nothing to show for their efforts, Byers wants to try and find the net with some regularity moving forward with Steve Cooper having challenged his midfielders to chip in with more goals.

“I was pleased to get back on the scoresheet, although of course I would have preferred for us to have got something from the game as that’s what it’s all about,” he said.

“I could have scored a couple more goals as well; the goalkeeper made some good saves.

“It’s nice to get back in the goals in the league. Hopefully, I can kick on and get a few more now.

“I just need to keep putting myself in the right areas and trying my luck.

“That will give me confidence going into our next games.”
