Harries hopeful of Byers return

3rd May

Cian Harries is hopeful that George Byers will be fit for Friday’s Premier League Cup final with Aston Villa at the Liberty Stadium.

Byers limped off with a foot injury after a heavy challenge in the first half of the under-23s’ 3-0 win over Sheffield United in the semi-finals.

The midfielder has played an instrumental role in the young Swans’ season, scoring 10 goals in all competitions, with his exploits earning him the Under-23/Young Player of the Year gong at the Liberty Stadium.

And Harries has fingers crossed that Byers will be passed fit for the Villa clash.

“It was really disappointing to lose George against Sheffield United,” the skipper said.

“He grabs games by the scruff of the neck and has been a really good player for us this season.

“Hopefully, it won’t be too long and he’ll be back with us.”

The under-23s are aiming to retain the title they won last season.
