With SwansAid applications open once again, we have checked in with previous winners to find out how the funding has helped them and their members.

Winning £10,000 in Spring 2015, Baglan Boys and Girls Club used their grant to replace their Astroturf with a new 3G surface to enable their young members to play football safely.

“The astroturf was waterlogged and beyond repair”, said chairman John Kingdom.

“The financial support that we have received from Swansea City has had a huge impact on our club. Without it we would not have been able to raise the finances required to install a 3G surface, and we would have lost the use of our outdoor facility.

“This would have severely curtailed our ability to provide football for youngsters in our area. We see football as an aid to their development to adulthood. They learn about teamwork and how rewards can be earned through effort and commitment.”

Since 2015, the Astroturf has allowed training for ages from U5-16s. Additionally, the surface is used by the Afan Nedd football development squad as well as a training facility for Swansea City Ladies.

The Community Trust have granted funding totalling over £140,000 to an assortment of organisations through SwansAid since its inception in September 2013.

Applications for Autumn’s funding are open until November 25 for groups operating within Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion or Carmarthenshire.

The SwansAid initiative run by the Community Trust aims to financially support clubs, charities, organisations or projects that encourage young people, or those with disabilities, to enhance their involvement within sport.

Made up of three separate categories, the Autumn round of funding will award the following:

· One large grant of up to £10,000

· Five small grants of up to £2,000

· One disability/inclusion grant of up to £5,000 for organisations making a concentrated effort to improve opportunities for disabled people to be active.
