Iceland reunion for Gylfi Sigurdsson

12th August

After helping his nation light up Euro 2016, Iceland star Gylfi Sigurdsson hopes to shine for the Swans when he comes up against a fellow countryman on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
The Swans midfielder played a pivotal role as Iceland reached the quarter-finals of the tournament in France this summer.
But with the Euros now firmly the back of the mind, the Premier League takes centre stage as English football's top flight kicks off this weekend.
And for Sigurdsson, the trip to newly-promoted Burnley will see him come up against fellow countryman Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

"We have been texting quite a bit in the last few weeks. It will be nice to play against him because he's a good player and friend," Sigurdsson said of Burnley's summer signing from Charlton Athletic.
"We achieved a lot for Iceland in the Euros, and now we get to play against each other in the Premier League.
"Hopefully I'll be the happier of the two on Saturday evening."

Victory would certainly send Sigurdsson - and the Swans - home happy.
Francesco Guidolin's side will look to pick up where they left off last season, with the Italian leading the Swans to two victories and a draw from the final three fixtures.
And Sigurdsson, who was named Away Player of the Year, Players' Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year last season after scoring 11 goals, is adamant the Swans must get off to a good start.
"Burnley will be up for it and the stadium will be full. They will be excited to be back in the Premier League," he added.
"The main thing for us is to start the season the way we did last year.
"If we get off to a good start then that can set us up for the rest of the season."

Please note, there are a very limited amount of tickets available from the Liberty Stadium Ticket Office for this game.
Supporters have until 5pm today (Friday) to purchase tickets in person at the Ticket Office. Fans are, however, advised to contact the Ticket Office on 0844 815 6665 first.
Swans fans can pay on the day at Burnley from the collection point near the away turnstiles.
