Jay Fulton | Togetherness and hard work key to upturn in form
Matchwinner Jay Fulton believes hard work and togetherness have been the key to Swansea City’s upturn in form, after the midfielder netted the winner in the New Year’s Day win over West Bromwich Albion.
The Scot scored his first goal for 13 months, and his first at the Swansea.com Stadium since October 2022, when he took advantage of Ronald’s excellent pressing work to pick up the ball and fire home from 25 yards to settle a hard-fought encounter with the Baggies.
It was a fourth home win in a row for the Swans, who also kept a fourth clean sheet in seven games, and a fifth victory in seven games in total.
Fulton praised the positive impact of head coach Vitor Matos and his staff, and feels the willingness of the squad to put the hard yards in for each other has been a feature of a run of 15 points from the last 21 available.
“The manager has come in and he has made very clear the way he wants to play,” he said.
“There is an awful lot of hard work going on, particularly at the top end of the pitch.
“You could see it with the goal, Ronald does well and the ball falls kindly for me to step on to.
“It’s been a while for me since I scored, and to be honest any goal is nice when it helps the team and we get the win.
“But confidence is high, there is a real togetherness, you have seen in these games that people have come in and out of the team and everyone has worked really hard for each other.
“The gaffer has been good with me, the start of the season was more difficult than I wanted it to be, but he has given me the chance to play more minutes and I am enjoying it.”
