Jess Williams v Aberystwyth Women

Defender Jess Williams experienced a "dream come true" after being handed the opportunity to captain Swansea City in their 1-1 draw against Aberystwyth Town.

A young Swans side, featuring three under-19 players making their first starts, found themselves behind after eight minutes as Amy Jenkins gave the visitors the lead.

But Monet Legall levelled soon after, a shot from the edge of the box finding the bottom left corner to level in the Swans final home game of the season.

Experienced centre-half Williams was honoured to have led her side out, and praised the young Swans who stepped into the team and earned a point.

“It was a pleasure to wear the armband,” said Williams.

“It was a dream come true after being at the club for six seasons now, so to put on the armband is really heartwarming and makes me feel very proud.

“We could have done a lot more in terms of the performance, but we will take a point against a physical side.

“It was a frustrating game, we rotated the squad with a lot of youngsters coming in who have done a good job.

“It’s important for us to be bringing in the young players, we have players picking up niggles, we’ve had five games in the last two weeks, so it’s important for us to have under-19s that are desperate to play and step up.

“They handled themselves well in the game, hopefully it’s a nice reward for their work and a pleasure for them to step into the team.

“We will have a rest now before Sunday, obviously not a long one, but I’m sure we will all be ready to put a shift in again. We could be rotating the squad again, but we have a squad where we can do that.”
