Joel Piroe expects the 2021-22 season to be a big period in his career as he looks to top up his games and goals tally at Swansea City.

The Dutchman signed a three-year contract at the Liberty this summer after his move from PSV Eindhoven was agreed for an undisclosed fee.

A player identified for his potential, Piroe is looking to make a big impression in SA1 after getting a taste of senior football at PSV and during a loan spell at Sparta Rotterdam.

He struck three times in 14 appearances for PSV, which included a brace in the Europa League, while he featured 18 times in the Dutch top flight during his temporary spell with Sparta.

At 21, Piroe now wants to push on and realise his potential with the Swans.

“It’s really nice to be here. I have to say the people here are very friendly and they have welcomed me perfectly,” said Piroe.

“I want to play a lot of games and hopefully score a lot too. I think it’s a very important season for me. I’ll be 22 in a few weeks, so I need to play a lot more now.

“I looked at the level of the Championship, and it’s a decent competition. It is a team that has ambitions of being promoted, and I like to play for a team that has big ambitions.”

Piroe didn’t have to look far to get positive feedback on his decision to snub offers from around Europe in order to join the Swans.

Former Swan Luciano Narsingh, who made 39 appearances during a two-and-a-half year spell in SA1, was once a team-mate of his at PSV.

And he gave Piroe a glowing report of the club.

“After the move, Luciano sent me a nice message saying I will feel happy here,” said Piroe.

“He said that Swansea would take good care of me and that I had made a wise decision, so that was nice to hear.”
