Ki features in South Korea defeat

22nd June

Swans midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng featured for the full 90 minutes as South Korea suffered a 4-2 defeat to Algeria.

In an enthralling encounter in Porto Allegre, a disappointing first-half display saw South Korea trail by three goals at the midway point after goals form Islam Slimani, Rafick Halliche and Abdelmoumeme Djabou earned Algeria a 3-0 lead.

Bayer Leverkusen striker Son Heung-min pulled one back for South Korea, five minutes into the second period, but Algeria's three-goal advantage was soon restored when Yacine Brahimi finished off a fine attacking move just past the hour mark.

With just under 20 minutes left on the clock, Koo Ja-cheol gave South Korea hope when he turned in from close range, but Algeria were able to hold on to secure a 4-2 victory in Group H.

South Korea's progress beyond the group stage now depends on them beating Belgium in their final group game on Thursday, but also on other results.
