Ki features as South Korea suffer defeat

26th June

Ki Sung-Yueng featured for the full 90 minutes as South Korea's World Cup hopes ended with a 1-0 defeat to Belgium.

Despite pushing the undefeated Belgians all the way, Jan Vertonghen's 77th minute poacher's finish was the difference between the two sides on the night in Sao Paulo.

Prior to kick-off, the onus to attack was on South Korea, who needed to beat Belgium by two clear goals to stand any chance of going through.

And their cause was helped when Steven Defour was sent off a reckless challenge on Kim Shin-wook right on the midway point.

But other than a Son Heung-Min cross striking the frame of the goal, the Asian side struggled to create any clear chances to trouble the resolute Belgians.

With just under a quarter of an hour left on the clock, Tottenham Hotspur defender Vertonghen pounced on Divock Origi's parried shot to hit home and clinch all three points for the Red Devils.
