Ki joins Sunderland on loan

31st August

Swansea City midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng has joined fellow Barclays Premier League side Sunderland on a season-long loan.
The deal for the South Korean, who joined the Swans for a then club record £5.5million deal from Celtic in August 2012, includes the option of a recall in January.
Ki featured 38 times in all competitions for the Swans last season, including a starting role in central defence during the Capital One Cup Final win over Bradford City.
But competition in central midfield this season, which has been strengthened by the signings of Jose Canas and Jonjo Shelvey, along with the return of loan signing Jonathan de Guzman, means Ki has managed just three substitute appearances so far this term.
He now joins up with Paolo di Canio's Sunderland, who face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tonight (Saturday).
