Paul Clement reckons Kyle Bartley can offer Swansea City something different this season after the centre-back signed a new contract.

Bartley this week penned a fresh four-year deal which ties him to the Swans until the summer of 2021.

And Clement reckons the former Arsenal youngster, who thrived during a loan spell at Leeds United last season, will be an asset.

“I like Kyle a lot,” the Swans manager said.

“He is a player with good leadership qualities. He had a good season last year with Leeds and he has come back here with confidence.

“He gives us another dimension in terms of the central defenders we have.

“He is very strong in both penalty areas and he has good communication skills within the group. I am very glad to have him here.”

Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez were regulars at the heart of Clement’s defence last season.

But Bartley, 26, will hope to push for a starting place having won many plaudits during his year-long stint at Leeds.
