Laudrup delighted with Chelsea triumph

Michael Laudrup declared himself "delighted" after seeing his side secure a two-goal advantage in the Capital One Cup semi-final.

The Swans took the lead shortly before half time as Michu capitalised on a mistake from Branislav Ivanovic before curling the ball past Ross Turnbull.

Then another error from Ivanovic in stoppage time saw Danny Graham round Turnbull before tucking the ball into an empty net for his fourth goal in as many games.

And Laudrup was pleased with his side's display, but insisted that the tie was far from decided ahead of the second leg at the Liberty in two weeks' time.

"We have already achieved some historic results this year," he said. "But to win at the home of the European champions is fantastic.

"We knew we had to put on a good performance without the ball, but try and get an important away goal as well.

"This is only the first half, but I'm delighted with the result."

The Swans had to withstand some heavy pressure throughout, with Chelsea creating a number of openings prior to Michu's opening goal.

David Luiz twice went close after the break and Demba Ba saw a goal ruled out for offside with more or less the last kick of the game.

But despite having to soak up a wave of Chelsea attacks with limited possession, Laudrup was delighted with the way his side adapted to the testing assignment they faced.

"Even if you take away the goals, they had a lot of possession but only had three real chances in the game," he said.

"That shows we did well defensively because Chelsea have been scoring a lot of goals recently.

"Even when we can't play our normal game, with lots of possession, it shows we can play differently.

"We had four games in 10 days over the Christmas and New Year period and didn't lose, which is fantastic for us."

Once again the post match talk centred around Michu, as the Spaniard scored his 16th goal of the season in another tireless display.

And even his manager was surprised with just how well his summer signing has adapted to life in English football.

"I never expect a new player to come in and score so many goals," said Laudrup. "But what he is doing is incredible.

"He has always been an offensive midfielder, but today he had one chance and scored - that's top class."

The Swans now prepare for a trip to Everton in the Premier League on Saturday before a FA Cup replay against Arsenal next Wednesday.

Laudrup's side host Stoke before they welcome Chelsea to the Liberty for the second leg, and the boss insists they have to take one game at a time as they battle on three fronts.

"We have to take one game at a time and find that special motivation," he said.

"We are not there yet, we are very far away. We will need another great performance but Chelsea have so much offensive potential.

"They are capable of scoring two or three goals but we wanted the realistic possibility of reaching the final - now we have that."

Meanwhile, the result means it's now two consecutive home defeats for Chelsea, as interim boss Rafa Benitez continues to try and win over the club's fans.

And despite the defeat, the Spaniard was pleased with his side's display and insists the the tie is far from over.

"We had a lot of chances and could have scored two or three in the first half," he said. "We were attacking and controlling possession, but we made two mistakes and we were punished.

"We have to be more clinical, but we did a lot of things well tonight. If we play this game ten times then we probably win nine of them.

"Swansea have a great advantage now but we have to go there and get a goal - then we are in the game."
