Leon Britton backs Wilfried Bony to be a World Cup hit

Leon Britton has backed Swans hotshot Wilfried Bony to continue his goalscoring antics at the World Cup in Brazil.

Bony hit 25 goals in his first season at the Liberty following last summer's club-record transfer from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.

And Britton believes Bony will continue to shine as the Ivory Coast look to qualify from a group that includes Colombia, Greece and Japan.

"We had obviously been without Michu for much of the season, so for Wilfried to come in from a different league and score the amount of goals he had - even though he didn't play a lot at the start - was a fantastic feat," Britton said of his team-mate.

"I think it took a little time for him to get up to match speed while it took us players some time to get the best out of Wilf and provide him with the service he needs to punish teams.

"But he's finished the season with 25 goals and that was a superb return for him and the club.

"He has a World Cup to look forward to now. It would be great to see him continue his form in the World Cup. He has proved a real beast for us, and he's a real menace for defences because they can't deal with him.

"So it wouldn't come as any surprise to see Wilf getting a few goals at the World Cup for the Ivory Coast. We'll all be cheering him on."
