Leroy: Let's win for Martin

Leroy Fer has urged Swansea City to claim victory over Sheffield Wednesday to lift the spirits of injured team-mate Martin Olsson.

The Swedish left-back ruptured his Achilles in the first half of last week’s win over Brentford and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Fer is fully aware of what Olsson is going through, having missed six months of action after sustaining the same injury earlier this year.

The Swans skipper says his team-mate has his full support - and has issued a rallying cry to the rest of the squad ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Wednesday at the Liberty.

“This is our first game without Martin so, whether he’s at the game or not, we have to try to win for him,” Fer said.

“You never want a player to suffer a long-term injury. I had the same injury, so that made me feel even worse for him because I know exactly what he’s going through.

“He’s one of our most experienced players and also one of the hardest workers in the team.

“Whenever he needs me, I’ll be here for him – not just because I’m the captain, but also because I know exactly what he’s going through.

“Hopefully, he can recover quickly and come back stronger than ever.”
