Bafe Gomis made his Marseille debut as their Ligue 1 season started with a 0-0 draw at home to Toulouse.
The French international, who is spending the whole campaign at the Stade Velodrome, went close to breaking the deadlock only to be denied by Toulouse keeper Alban Lafont.
In English football, Kyle Bartley was part of the Leeds side which went down 2-1 to his former loan club Birmingham City at Elland Road.
Bartley played the full game as Garry Monk's side slipped to their second consecutive league defeat. Midfielder Matt Grimes, meanwhile, was an unused substitute for Leeds.
Kenji Gorre was in action for Northampton Town, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Charlton Athletic at The Valley.
The winger made his third appearance for Northampton, who extended their unbeaten league run to 26 games courtesy of this draw.
Gorre played for 71 minutes before being replaced by Marc Richards as Northampton picked up their second consecutive draw in League One.



Adam King
came off the bench for Southend as they were beaten 2-0 at Port Vale.
The Scottish midfielder was introduced in the 63rd minute in the defeat which sees Southend prop up the table.
In League Two, Josh Vickers kept his first clean sheet as Barnet beat Accrington Stanley 2-0.
The young keeper pulled off a magnificent save late on to deny Sean McConville as Barnet moved to joint top.
Ryan Hedges was in action for Yeovil as they salvaged a point during a 1-1 draw at Luton.
Hedges played the full game while Liam Shephard was unavailable due to injury for Yeovil, who have taken four points from their opening two matches.
Josh Sheehan and Oliver Davies were unused substitutes as Newport and Kilmarnock beat Leyton Orient and Hamilton.
