Maric hungry for more Cup success

11th February

Adnan Maric wants to take the experience gained from his senior Swansea City debut and apply it to Monday’s Premier League Cup tie against Newcastle United at Landore (1pm).

The 20-year-old midfielder came off the bench to make his first team debut as the Swans defeated Notts County 8-1 in midweek.

Now the Sweden Under-19 international will look to help Swansea’s under-23s make progress in the Premier League Cup as they aim to retain the title they won last May.

“It was a big moment for me and an amazing feeling to play in the Notts County game,” Maric said.

“To make my first-team debut was a proud moment. I have been with the Swans for over three years and have continued to work hard behind the scenes. For me it was all building to that game.

“The challenge now is to earn more opportunities. I feel I am always learning and I want to take the experience I got with the first team this week into Monday’s game.”

Maric, who joined the Swans from Swedish team GAIS in August 2014, was on target the last time the under-23s met Newcastle back in November. The

Magpies ran out 6-3 winners at Little Benton Academy that day.

Despite a 4-3 victory over Colchester last month the young Swans are still third in Group D and must win on Monday to have a chance of progressing to the knockout stage of the competition.

“We know we need to get a result,” Maric added. “We are the holders of the cup and we would like to retain it.

“We had a disappointing result against Newcastle at their place and our aim will be to turn that around because we know we are capable of better.

“I will continue to work hard and have to prove myself again on Monday if I want another chance at a higher level.”

Swansea City Under-23s face Newcastle United at 1pm at Landore this afternoon. Entry is free for fans but there is no parking at the facility. The game will be streamed live on www.swanseacity.com and with updates on Twitter @swansofficial.
