Michu called up by Spain

6th October

Swans star Michu has tonight received his first call-up to Spain's national squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Michu, who featured for the full 90 minutes of today's Barclays Premier League defeat at Southampton, was called up by Vincent Del Bosque following David Villa's withdrawal through injury.
The 27-year-old, who wore protective headware against the Saints to protect the seven stitches he needed during the Europa League win over St Gallen, is set to join up with the world champions on Tuesday for the qualifiers against Belarus in Majorca on Friday and Georgia in Albacete three days later.
Holders Spain need just four points from those matches to guarantee a spot at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Also on international duty will be fellow Swans Ashley Williams, Neil Taylor and Ben Davies along with Dutch pair Michel Vorm and Jonathan de Guzman while Wilfried Bony is set to join up with the Ivory Coast.
