Mike confident of change in fortune

Defender Mike van der Hoorn is confident the Swans’ fortunes in front of goal will change as Paul Clement’s side enter a busy festive schedule.

The Swans host West Brom this weekend with the hosts aiming to climb off bottom spot in the Premier League following last weekend’s loss at Stoke.

The league’s joint-lowest scorers will look to narrow the gap to the fourth-bottom Baggies to just one point when they face off at the Liberty.

And van der Hoorn believes a change in form – and luck in front of goal – is just around the corner.

“We have good attacking players and I am confident our form in front of goal will change,” said the Dutchman.

“It was a big plus for us and Wilfried (Bony) for him to get his first goal last week. I think he will score a lot more for the club.

“Tammy (Abraham) has done well and scored a few goals while Jordan (Ayew) is always working hard to either create or score goals.

“But it is not just about the players in the final third and what they do. The service from the goalkeeper and defence to the midfield has to be good, and then the midfield must ensure they play the right pass to the attacking players.

“If they are not right then we can’t expect the strikers to score goals, because it is very difficult otherwise.”

He added: “West Brom is a massive game for us.

“We are desperate to change our position in the table and a win would start moving us in the right direction.

“But we expect it to be a very tough and close game. They have a new manager so they are still getting used to his plans while the players are also wanting to impress him too.

“But we will concentrate on ourselves and we know if we play to our potential then we can get the right result.”
