Mike van der Hoorn has revealed a former Barcelona forward and two-time Champions League winner told him Swansea City are the best footballing team in the Championship.

The Dutch defender spoke with former Ajax team-mate Bojan following Tuesday night’s 3-1 victory over Stoke City – a game in which Van der Hoorn scored the Swans’ second goal.

Bojan played alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto’o during his time at the Nou Camp, which saw him win the Champions League twice and lift the La Liga title three times, along with the Copa del Rey.

Now at Stoke, the 28-year-old was left to watch on from the substitutes' bench at the Liberty as Graham Potter’s side clinched a third win in a row.

And Bojan, who lifted the Eredivisie title alongside Van der Hoorn during a loan spell at Ajax, was full of praise for the Swans when he met his former team-mate post-match.

“I spoke to Bojan and he said he believes that we, along with Brentford, play the best football in the league,” said the Swans’ stand-in skipper.

“That’s confirmation that we’re going the right way because he played at the top level with Barcelona.

“For me, this is definitely the best football we’ve played since I joined from Ajax in 2016."

Having followed up a four-match losing run with a three-game winning streak, the Swans now head to Loftus Road on Saturday to take on QPR.

And Van der Hoorn is hoping Potter’s side can take their winning momentum into the weekend’s clash in London.

“We want to keep this up,” said the 26-year-old centre-back.

“It’s been a brilliant week and we’ve got good results – we’ve scored nine goals and conceded just two. I’m really pleased.

“It’s been a good three games for us but there’s still plenty of work to do.”
