Mike sees bright future for Swans
Mike van der Hoorn believes exciting times are ahead for Swansea City after the activation of a contract extension through to the end of the 2019-20 season for the defender.
The three-year deal the Dutchman signed when joining from Ajax during the summer of 2016 included an option for a further year’s extension, and both parties have agreed to take that up.
van der Hoorn has enjoyed a fine season at the heart of the Swans defence - skippering the side in the absence of the injured Leroy Fer – and has been an ever-present in the Championship.
And the 26-year-old is pleased to have the security of going into the off-season with the option taken up, and believes there is a bright future ahead under Graham Potter.
“I am delighted. It was coming, so it was no surprise to me but it is now more clear for me and the club,” he said.
“It’s good that I know what is happening, that always helps a player.
“For me, this has been the most football I have played in one year in my career in terms of games, personally being captain means a lot to me.
“Everything has improved for me, I’ve enjoyed playing under the manager.
“I feel I have got better and developed and that is what you want as a player.
“It’s an exciting time for the club and I want to help us move forward. I want to carry it on with this option having been taken.”
