Mike takes heart from Spurs display

Mike van der Hoorn reckons Swansea City can take plenty of positives from the performance against Tottenham Hotspur despite their 2-0 defeat.

Fernando Llorente gave Spurs the lead against his old club in the 12th minute - although the goal should have been ruled out for offside - before Dele Alli wrapped up the points in the dying moments.

The Swans remain bottom of the Premier League table but produced a spirited performance in Carlos Carvalhal’s first home match in charge.

And van der Hoorn is confident his team-mates can build on their display against Spurs in the games ahead.

“The boys gave their all. We created some good chances and were more dangerous than Tottenham,” the defender said.

“Tottenham didn’t create too much apart from the goals. It was frustrating in the first 20 minutes, but the crowd got behind us and we started to believe.

“The manager was proud of us. He believes that we can stay up if we play the way we did in the second half.

“We just have to show belief, especially against the bigger teams. We must not give them too much respect and give our all and see what happens. With confidence, we can beat anyone.”
