Mike van der Hoorn hopes he can chip in with a few more goals for Swansea City as excitement grows with the new season up and running.

The Dutch defender scored the crucial goal as the Swans came from behind to beat Hull in their opening Championship fixture last weekend.

It sets Steve Cooper’s men up for their forthcoming trip to face Derby County at Pride Park.

And, while van der Hoorn will be focused on keeping clean sheets at one end, he hopes to be able to play a part in responding to the head coach’s request for goals to come from throughout the Swans squad this season.

And the 26-year-old says the progression shown throughout pre-season and the win over Hull mean there is a buzz about the dressing room at the moment.

“It was brilliant for me to get a goal in my first league game of the season and I hope for more goals as the season progresses,” he said.

“Obviously I hope to keep clean sheets to and do my job as a defender, but it’s always good to help the team with a goal.

“We can see that all the hard work we put in over pre-season paid off with that win over Hull.

“It was a great win and we’re all feeling very excited for the rest of the season.”
