Mike van der Hoorn is eyeing a run to the latter stages of the Emirates FA Cup as Swansea City look to keep their fine form going.

The Swans are unbeaten in their nine games in all competitions ahead of Saturday’s fifth-round tie at Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.

The Swans have not got beyond this stage since reaching the semi-finals way back in 1964 – but van der Hoorn is hopeful that Carlos Carvalhal’s team can change all that.

“We want to do well in the cup,” the centre-back said.

“We are not that far away from the final stages of the competition now, although we have a big challenge coming up against Sheffield Wednesday.

“It is not impossible, though, and we know that if we can get through this weekend, we are into the last eight.

“This is one of the best cup competitions in the world and it would be great to get through.”

The Swans have lost only of their 11 matches since Carvalhal took the reins, and van der Hoorn has played in nine of them.

That is an impressive tally for a player who has had to be patient for much of his stint is a Swan, which began when he signed from Ajax in the summer of 2016.

“I feel like I am getting better and stronger – that’s what happens when you have a run of games,” van der Hoorn added.

“I have been pleased with the last couple of months.

“I came here because I wanted to play. We all want that. As a team we are going well and it’s good to be part of that.

“We have scrapped for some points away from home and had some great wins at home.

“These are good days for us. We are on a great run and we don’t want to stop right now.”
