Monk expects positive reaction

Garry Monk is expecting a positive response from his side when the Swans host Everton at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

The Swans suffered their first defeat of the season at Premier League new-boys Watford last weekend, having gone the opening four games of the campaign unbeaten.

Monk's men have earned plenty of plaudits for their impressive start to the season, which includes home victories over Manchester United and Newcastle United, as well as a hard-fought draw at Chelsea on the opening day.

But at Vicarage Road last weekend, the Swans were unable to pick up from where they left off following the international break and succumbed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat.

However, Monk insists he is confident that his side will bounce back at the first time of asking.

"You're disappointed to lose any game, but we didn't reach the levels we wanted to last weekend," said the Swans boss.

"We lost focus a little bit from what we are good at and didn't execute our game plan.

"But the players have been excellent this week. They're responded well in training and we want to give a positive reaction against Everton.

"You get setbacks - that's the nature of football - but we've always reacted well in the past, and I'm confident that we will get a reaction this weekend."

Everton, meanwhile, head to South Wales in a confident mood following an impressive 3-1 victory over champions Chelsea last time out.

After a steady start to the season, Roberto Martinez's side have come into some good form and sit level on points with the Swans.

And following two tight affairs last season, Monk is anticipating another closely contested encounter this time around.

"We beat them in the cup last year, but they've been tight games in recent seasons," he added.

"They are a strong outfit, but we are confident. We have been good at home so far this season, and we are looking to continue that.

"Everton had a difficult season last year for various reasons, but they've started this season extremely well. They have shown their true quality to get some fantastic results.

"I have a good relationship with Roberto, and we've had some good games when we've played against his side.

"It doesn't surprise me that they are playing the way they are - Roberto's a good manager.

"They have had a good start to the season, as have we, which is why i think it will be a really good game."
