Monk: Lessons to be learned

9th August

Garry Monk insists there were lessons to be learned from Saturday's defeat against Villarreal ahead of the start of the new  Premier League season.
The Swans went down to a 3-0 defeat against the Spanish outfit in what was a disappointing afternoon at the Liberty Stadium.
Ikechukwu Uche side-footed home the opening goal after just three minutes, while captain Bruno Soriano curled home a delightful free kick shortly after the break.
And the La Liga outfit added a third through Denis Cheryshev as the Swans' pre-season ended in defeat.

"It was disappointing in terms of the result," he said. "We didn't play how we wanted to but during pre-season we have been working on a number of different things, so it was never going to be a completely fluid performance.
"We made too many mistakes and the decision-making was poor. We played against a very good side and that is something that we are aspiring to work towards.
"But we'll take the lessons from this game and take them forward into the season."
Monk's side now prepare for a trip to Manchester United next Saturday as their fourth campaign in the top flight gets underway.
United, under the new guidance of new boss Louis van Gaal, will be hoping for a positive start to 2014-15 following a disappointing season last year.
But the Swans boss insists his squad won't be fazed by the task in hand at Old Trafford.
"It's been a very good pre-season," he said. "We've had some good performances and good training sessions and I think the fans will see a very good Swansea side this season.
"I'll do everything I can to make sure the players are prepared for next week and we'll go there full of confidence and firing on all cylinders.
"All I care about is our performances and the one thing I can say is that it will be better than today."
