Oli McBurnie pointed to Wilfried Bony’s influence as a big factor in him joining the Ivorian in the Swans’ 20-goal club.

McBurnie scored twice in Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 win over relegation-threatened Rotherham United at the Liberty – a victory which moved the Swans up to 11th in the Championship.

The brace took McBurnie’s total for the season to 21, with the Scot becoming the first Swans player since Bony, who is on loan with Qatar club Al-Arabi, in 2014 to have scored 20-plus goals.

And the 22-year-old believes Bony’s advice has been a big help in sending him past the 20-goal barrier.

“I learned a lot from him when he was here,” said McBurnie. “He scored a lot of goals and was excellent for this club and he’s a good person to share that statistic with.

I’m just trying to help the team as much as possible.

“I just want to score as many goals as I can every time I go out on the pitch. The two goals against Rotherham were nice but it was also good to get the three points.”
