Olsson: Spirits are high

Martin Olsson believes Swansea City are in good shape after nine games of the Championship season, declaring: “We are in high spirits.”

The Swans are in mid-table having won three of their first six league games this term before taking two points from a possible nine over the last nine days.

Graham Potter’s men were beaten away from home for the first time in 2018-19 at Stoke last Tuesday, but they bounced back from that defeat by claiming a creditable draw at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

And after the struggles of the last campaign, Olsson is an upbeat mood as the Swans re-acclimatise to life in the second tier.

“I think we are in a good position at this stage of the season,” he said.

“We haven’t scored a lot of goals recently but there is no need to panic.

“We found it hard to pick up points last season, but now we are playing good football, digging deep and are in the games until the end.

“We are linking up more and moving better. We are enjoying it as players. Win or lose we are enjoying it and we are working hard to improve ourselves.

“We want to win every game but the main thing is we are looking good. We are in high spirits.”

Potter made it clear that he wants more from his players despite their efforts at Middlesbrough, where they became the first visiting team to avoid defeat in the Championship this season.

The Swans have shown plenty of spirit and defensive resilience in the early stages of the Potter era, but will hope to produce more in the final third when they return to action against Queens Park Rangers next weekend.

And Olsson says the Swans boss is keen for his team to express themselves in attack.

“I knew the manager had a good reputation in my home country because of what he did at Ostersund,” Olsson added.

“Now I have worked with him I can tell why the players rate him and spoke so well of him. He is good at managing the players and he is also good at letting us express ourselves.

“Many of us are enjoying that. Many of us are more relaxed now we are allowed to express ourselves on the pitch.”
